It utilizes concepts of cataloging and coding to streamline data and aggregate commonalities between datapoints. Network analysis produces non-geographic maps that visualize the lines of connection between the identified elements that form the map. Scholars use network analysis to identify correlations and patterns within and between these elements that can then be researched further in the source material. Network maps can serve as evidence of trends that are undergirded by evidence in the source material.
